Becket was created in response to a simple but urgent truth: too many young people in Newfoundland and Labrador are unable to access the support they need, when they need it most.
That’s where Integrated Youth Services (IYS) come in. IYS is a global movement transforming how young people and their families access care — bringing mental health, addictions, primary care, peer support, and social services together in a single, youth-friendly location that meets the unique needs of youth in their communities.
Following six years of consultation and engagement with steering committees across NL, in 2024, Choices for Youth stepped forward as the backbone organization to lead the creation of a province-wide IYS network alongside communities across the province. The project was developed in close partnership with Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) Health Services and a coalition of generous national and provincial funders. In Canada, all provinces and territories have IYS hubs either in operation or in development. Becket is proud to join this pan-Canadian initiative.
Raising the Roof is proud to come alongside the Becket team as the developer for the new Becket Corner Brook site, using our real estate development expertise to catalyze this project. This property will be operated by Vine Place Community Centre and is anticipated to open in 2026. While not directly creating new units, this project aligns with Raising the Roof's priorities to prevent homelessness through connections to affordable and supportive housing. The team at Vine Place will be providing housing connections through this innovative, easily accessible hub of services for young people in Newfoundland.
