Hockey Helps the Homeless’ mission is to leverage Canada’s affinity for hockey to raise awareness and support for the homeless through education, fundraising, and partnering with solutions based local homeless support agencies. For the past 20 years, HHTH has raised over $12 million and has expanded tournaments across Canada to include the cities of Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Markham, London, Montreal, Barrie, Kitchener-Waterloo, Halifax, and now Mississauga.
WHAT IS HHTH?
Hockey Helps the Homeless works towards a future where every Canadian has a place to call home. The money raised through their fantasy hockey tournaments help to fund the work of over 40 homeless support agencies across the country that share their goal of ending homelessness. Funds raised in a community, stay in that community, providing immediate relief through shelters and survival kits, and supporting longer-term needs including transitional housing projects and return-to-work training programs that help to restore the dignity and independence of homeless people.
WHAT WILL THE INAUGURAL MISSISSAUGA TOURNAMENT SUPPORT?
The funds raised through the tournament will be put towards our Reside program which repurposes vacant and abandoned houses and renovates them as affordable housing for families and youth who are at-risk of homelessness.
