New Raising the Roof Leadership

Effective March 29, 2010, after ten years of exemplary leadership, Jennifer Parnell has chosen to step down from her role as Executive Director to assume responsibilities as the Director of Strategic and Financial Planning. Jennifer has provided the organization with strong, effective leadership, working tirelessly to establish successful programs and initiatives aimed at increasing awareness and understanding of the issue of homelessness; engaging and supporting diverse stakeholders in solutions-focused work; and forging strategic partnerships with private, non-profit and government sectors.

Carolann Barr, previous Director of Research and Community Initiatives, will succeed Jennifer as Executive Director. Since joining the organization Carolann has led the development of the national research report Youth Homelessness in Canada: The Road to Solutions; spearheaded planning for a national youth homelessness conference in Toronto in 2008; and established the National Youth Homelessness Network – a coalition of service providers and other stakeholders from across Canada, working on solutions towards youth homelessness. Carolann’s background includes close to 20 years of working in the community sector providing leadership and program development expertise to benefit diverse and marginalized people.

Amanda Noble has joined the Raising the Roof team as the Manager of Research and Community Initiatives. Amanda recently graduated from York University with her Master’s of Social Work degree.

Many skilled volunteers, including individuals who are homeless, make substantial contributions to Raising the Roof. Our Board of Directors includes homelessness experts from across the country who bring expertise and understanding to the issue. Our staff is a group of deeply committed and skilled professionals with extensive experience in communications, program management and fundraising.
